Estimator 

About the Job:

Reporting to the Senior Estimator, the Estimator will be involved in the procurement of work within Calgary and the surrounding area. This position will be based at our SE Calgary office located near Shepard Industrial Park. The successful applicant will have a comprehensive understanding of civil construction, deep underground utilities, asphalt paving, concrete works, and earthworks. Candidates interested in both estimating and project management/coordination are welcome to apply. Candidateswith significant civil construction field experience and minor estimating experience are also welcome to apply.

 

The ideal candidate is an individual who takes ownership of a project, uses strategic thinking, and can produce timely and accurate results.

 

Preference and consideration will be given to those candidates with:

  • Proven Civil Construction estimating experience.

  • An established client network with industry contacts.

  • Experience with estimating software.

 

Primary Role & Responsibilities:

  • Analyze plans, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare cost estimates.

  • Attend pre-tender meetings and conduct onsite reviews of all assigned projects.

  • Perform complete and accurate cost estimates on selected projects, and review estimates with management.

  • Perform quantity take-offs as required for each assigned project.

  • Manage, prepare, and submit assigned project tenders including all submission documents.

  • Monitor and maintain the solicitation requirements for subtrade and supplier pricing.

  • Obtain and review supplier and subtrade pricing for accuracy.

  • Collaborate with the estimating team, project management, and operations department as necessary.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with subtrades.

  • Document all required communications with clients, suppliers, subtrades, and others during the estimating process.

  • Participate in proposal content development, as necessary.

  • Monitor project notifications/tender administration.

  • Facilitate hand-over of successful project submissions to project management and operations department.

  • Participate in project close-out meetings.

 

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years applicable experience.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.

  • Ability to manage and execute, with accuracy, multiple tenders at once.

  • Flexibility and willingness to adapt to a work schedule if required to meet deadlines.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

  • Construction-related degree or equivalent combination of technical training and experience is an asset.

  • Advanced knowledge and ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, and other documents.

  • Advanced knowledge of cost estimating, estimating processes, and construction contracts.

  • Advanced knowledge of applicable industry standard specifications.

  • Proficiency with MS Office, B2W or HCSS HeavyBid, Explorer, and other software.

  • Valid driver’s license.
